London Road

Date: March 2022
Venue:  The Embassy Theatre, RCSSD        Written by:  Alecky Blythe and Adam Cork          Director:  Julia Locascio.
Set Design:  Suzanne Emerson         Costume Design: Yijing Chen         Lighting Design:  Graeme Smith
Working with the verbatim account of a community exploded by the murder of 5 sex workers in their midst.  Two distinct performance spaces were created; the relative security of the London Road resident's sitting rooms, and the battleground just outside their windows.  We listen as the residents recount their experience and ultimately see them come together in a moment of healing.

Design notes:  The naturalistic sitting rooms were brought close to the audience to mirror the original interviews with Alecky Blythe.  Three abstract structures moved around the main stage reflecting the world outside and finally coming together to form the outlines of a row of houses - the healing moment.
