Me: I am an experienced theatre practitioner, from early amateur days as a performer, director, designer and producer, to my professional career as a Set and Costume Designer.
I love working with space and shapes. The joy of design for performance is taking an empty shell and working with all its peculiarities to create a world that supports the performers in realising the drama and dramaturgy of the text, music or dance, in a surprising and inventive way. My designs are architectural in nature, used in a playful way to support scene transitions and story momentum. My interest is in the emotions of a piece, often employing kinetic set pieces to enhance the dramatic, rather than the naturalistic elements. |
